In reading, we will be reading Charlotte’s Web as a class. We will be focusing on fluency and comprehension. This is preparing the students for third grade and stepping them up from picture books. The students continue to do a great job! During the summer, we hope the students continue to read chapter books. To help their comprehension, read with your child and ask them questions about the book they are reading.
In math we are still working on memorizing our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Practice with your child at home to prepare them for third grade. We are also continuing our study of fractions and we will begin learning division.
In writing, we are finishing our personal narratives. We will also continue to work on writing stories as well as our “how to” papers. During the summer it is important to reinforce the writing process. They need to remember how to write multiple paragraphs as well as how to correct their own mistakes. Editing is a very important step in becoming fantastic writers! There will be multiple writing projects in their summer activity packets. To have fun, have them keep a journal and write about things they do over the summer.
Binder Park Zoo Field Trip:
It’s field trip time! Our last field trip of the school year will be to Binder Park Zoo on June 2nd, 2008! Students must wear school uniforms and comfortable shoes to walk in! More information is attached and permission slips are due no later than Thursday, May 29th, 2008. Chaperones are needed and much appreciated!
A Note from the Teachers:

This year could not have been a success without all of you. Thank you for making this year great! We appreciate all of the support you have given throughout the year. We wish everyone a safe and fun summer!

After we have completed all of our objectives, we will begin a review of past objectives as well as some fun and interesting activities. The students have done a great job this year and we are so proud of their accomplishments.
Weather Watch:
Now that the warm weather is here please remember that the proper dress code is blue bottoms and a white collared shirt. Since the temperature is still a little cool in the morning, we ask that you send your child in a light jacket. Remember to send your child in closed-toed shoes, and please do not send them with boots.
End of the Year:
The end of the year is quickly approaching. During the last week of school we will be cleaning out our desks and cubbies. If you could please send your child in with a paper bag so that he/she could bring home the belongings in his/her desk. There will be a lot of stuff coming home, so the extra bags will be helpful in transporting it from school to home.
Field Day will be in the afternoon on Wednesday, June 4th. To celebrate field day the students will have a non-uniform day. However, the students must be dressed appropriately for school (i.e. no sandals, tank tops, halter tops, etc.). If they are not dressed appropriately, then they will be changed into a uniform provided by the school. The students must wear their uniforms to school on Thursday, June 5th.
