Valentine’s Day heart

Our classroom will be having our Valentine Party on Tuesday, February 14th in the afternoon.  We will watch a Valentine Movie, have a few snacks, and exchange valentines.  If you would like to send in something for the party, please do so (healthy snacks are preferred, but some sweets are alright).  If your child is going to pass out valentines they need to bring one for everyone (we have 17 students).  You will find a class list on the back of the newsletter.

Winter Wear

Please remember to send all the essential winter weather clothing with your child each day.  Students should bring boots, inside shoes, snow pants, mittens or gloves, hats, and of course a warm coat.  Please make sure your child comes prepared for the weather!

Character Counts

This month our character trait is COOPERATION.  Please talk to your child at home about the meaning of cooperation and what you expect from your child.
In January we focused on COMPASSION.  Congratulations to our winners, Ben O. and Eve T.!

Boris/Roelofs (Third Grade)-

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a great holiday break!  Thank you VERY much to all the families that donated items for our holiday party, your help is always greatly appreciated.  As we start the New Year, we also start many new concepts.  There are just a few topics to cover this month:

Classroom News

This month we will end the 2nd quarter with review.  You will receive your child’s 2nd quarter report card on Friday, January 27th.
In math we will continue our math challenge with Ms. Becklar’s class.  Starting soon we will be testing students on their division facts during math challenge.  You can help by studying flashcards at home.  If your child has not yet memorized all their multiplication facts it is very important that they work on these at home.  As we start division those students who do not have their multiplication facts memorized will have a tough time with division.
In language arts we will continue to examine writing styles as well as further develop our own writing skills.  In science we will continue to look at space.  We will also begin talking about the Earth’s composition.

Cold Weather/Recess

Winter is here! We WILL be going out for recess each day unless the actual temperature or wind chill is below ten degrees, or if the playground is very wet or muddy.  Students should come prepared to go outside with boots, snow pants, gloves, hats and of course a warm coat.  Students should have separate shoes for inside and they are welcome to leave them in their cubbies during the week.  In addition, we expect that if students are well enough to be at school they are well enough to go out for recess.  If your child needs to stay in during recess we will need a doctor’s note.

Jungle Joes Fun Night

We will be having a school wide Jungle Joes fun night on Thursday, January 26th from 5-7pm.  Please come join in the fun!  All proceeds earned that night help fun our 3rd grade camp! Book It
Please turn in Book It calendars for December as soon as possible!  January’s calendar is attached.  Keep reading.  Book It runs through the end of March!

Box-tops and Labels for Education

Don’t forget to keep saving box-tops for education and Campbells soup labels.

PTO NEWS!!!

Check out our pictures!
Dear Parents,

We want to inform you of the progress our students made during the 2010-2011 school year. We constantly review each student's learning progress to be certain that we are "on track." One way we do this is by employing a widely used and nationally validated achievement test. This test is administered throughout the United States to hundreds of thousands of children annually, both at the beginning, and again at the end of the school year.

Our students have completed the spring test and we can now judge the results of our students' and out teachers' efforts this school year.

Our charts demonstrate the results in greater detail.

We welcome others to join us for the 2011 - 2012 school year!
