VALENTINES DAY
Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th. On this day, students are welcome to bring in Valentines for their classmates. Treats are also welcome. We will have a small celebration in the afternoon. During this time, we will assemble and decorate Valentine’s boxes and will pass out Valentines to our classmates.
BOOK IN A BAG
We are excited to start “book in a bag” next month. Attached you will find a sheet of each child’s presentation day. Presentations will be held during DEAR (1:10-1:30). Parents are welcome to visit or take pictures during their child’s presentation. This is a great way to celebrate “March is Reading Month”.
100th day of school
Our 100th day of school falls on February 14th. We will celebrate the 100th day of school by making necklaces out of 100 beads during the Valentine’s Day Celebration.
BOOK IT!
Attached you will find a handout to fill out for the month. The goal is that your child will read independently or with an adult for 20 minutes (5 days per week). Once their form is completed they can hand it in and receive a coupon for a personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut.

WEATHER WATCH:
Winter weather is here. Your child needs to be prepared to have outside recess each day. Students are responsible to bring boots, gloves, hats, snow pants and a change of shoes everyday. If they do not have extra shoes or boots, they will be not allowed to play on the playground. They will be asked to stay on the side walk. Remember to label everything!
BOOK IT:
Feed your child’s imagination this winter with a good book. Book It log sheets are due at the end of the month. Our goal for the month of January is to read 20 books. Help your child choose books at their reading level and encourage them to read to you. This will help them to practice word recognition.
TO FIGHT THE WINTER BLUES:
Build a snowman in the front yard
Enjoy a hot chocolate party with the whole family. Dip a candy cane in your cocoa for a peppermint twist
Write a silly story. Each night add something new to the story.
Take a long walk in the snow. Look for prints made in the snow including your own!
Check out books from the public library. Don’t forget to fill in your Book It log sheet.
Rent a family movie and share a big bowl of popcorn.
Sort coins and count how much money you have collected.
Write our spelling words in Jell-O powder. Place powder into a bowl. Write each word. Don’t forget to lick your finger as you write each letter
Draw and label a family portrait.
Use cereal and create counting games. Count the pieces to determine if you have an odd or even number. Count cereal pieces by 2s, 5s and 10s.
Try to read the different signs you see as you drive to and from school. Create a picture dictionary of the different places you spot.
